Delicious Pub Grub to go with that well deserved beer @ Southwest Tavern

If you're looking for a place to chill after the daily grind of life or to catch up with friends with some good food and cold beers, Southwest Tavern would be an ideal place with its wild west theme and relaxed atmosphere. It has a pretty diverse menu that caters to most taste buds.
We had the Beer butt chicken (A whole chicken stuffed with a beer can and smoked for an entire hour), Blooming onion (Onions fried in a crispy light batter and served with ranch sauce), Australian marbled sirloin 300gm and Suicide wings (Chicken wings imported directly from the depths of hell). We had a really satisfying feast and we were completely decimated by the suicide wings, what a memorable experience! Watch the video for more!!!

This is too spicy that we couldn't taste the chicken only the spiciness of the suicide wings.

A Hidden Gem "Chettynad Curry Palace" in Little India, Singapore

Authentic Chettinad Cuisine hidden away in a quiet corner of Little India. Comfort food at its finest in a small cozy and cool eatery. We feasted on aromatic biriyani rice with succulent pieces of mutton masala, Chicken Masala coated with a concentrated paste of intense flavours and pepper chicken biriyani that came with an unforgettable creamy and buttery gravy that made us sweat but made us crave for more!

Mutton curry. It does not taste gamy and tender mutton with curry filled of strong spices.

It is serve with rice buried underneath are the meat we have chosen. Don't be mistaken that this is not a dum briyani.

Pepper chicken, Don't judge a book by its cover. This dish is super spicy due to its peppery taste.

Thai Wanton Mee @ Soi 19 Singapore

A simple yet mouth watering dish, the Thai rendition of our local favourite Wanton Mee is definitely a treat for the senses with its vibrant colours, savoury fragrance and mind blowing taste. A bowl of moist egg noodles comes topped with roasted pork, sweet Chinese sausages, fried crispy wanton and spring onions. It also comes with a soup that is rich in flavour, an unusual combination of pork and chicken perhaps but interesting and delicious nonetheless. Did I mention that they have free flow fried pork lard? Truly this is a feast for the senses. Now the only thing left to do, is for you to taste it.

Pork based soup with succulent wantons filled with well seasoned minced pork and water chestnuts. Warm and comforting. The perfect soup for a cold day.

Ayam Sambal Hijau & Lele Penyet @ Dapur Penyet

Dapur penyet has one of the biggest varieties of penyet that we've seen in Singapore. They have catfish, beef, duck, chicken, etc. Apart from penyet dishes, they also have other side dishes as well.
We deicded to go with the ayam hijau penyet, pecel lele and sayur asam.

Sayur asam is tamarind vegetable soup, despite being red in colour, it's not really that spicy. In fact, it was sweet with an underlying sourness. It made a great starter as the sourness of the soup was starting to drive our appetites crazy. The vegetables in the soup weren't stewed but blanched and that kept the vegetables fresh and crunchy while still retaining it's natural sweetness.

The Lele (Catfish) was very well fried, there were cuts at the sides of the fish and we were able to see that the fish was fried very thoroughly. The fried skin was salty and the flesh was sweet but the oiliness of the catfish, the natural fats made it all blend together. The texture difference between the skin and flesh is the first to hit you, followed by the strong taste of catfish.

The sambal was potent. So i'd suggest you to try a little bit of your finger tip first. When mixed with the rice, it becomes slightly easier to handle and that spiciness enhances the taste of the catfish. I found it hard to control my intake of sambal because it's just that irresistible.

The ayam sambal hijau came with a fried and smashed chicken with chunky green sambal. The sambal hijau take a few seconds to kick it but although it was different as compared to the red sambal. It still was potent in it's own way.
The chicken was juicy and tender. The outer part of skin and flesh was fried more than the inner parts and that allowed the meat to soak in the sambal hijau. In my opinion, that part of the meat was the best.

Both dishes came with fried tofu, but it felt very different. It was really tightly packed and had a texture similar to panner (Indian cottage cheese). The keropok was another addition i've always loved in Indonesian cuisine. It always had this essense of play and I loved having that crunch amidst all the tofu, meat and sambal. It all just worked together like a dance. A dance of flavours and textures.

Although I felt that the dishes were abit pricey, at the end of the meal I understood what I paid for. It all made sense and it was worth every cent.

The Best Chicken Rice in Yishun

Today we visited our favourite chicken rice stall in Yishun S11 coffeeshop which is situated opposite Yishun mrt station.

Usually during lunch and dinner time, there will be a long queue in this stall but today we were lucky enough that its not crowded. The food served in this stall is good in quality and generous in portion. Their soup was cooked from scratch with chicken stock, chicken feet, peanuts, etc. The soup was strong with chicken flavour and the nuttiness of peanuts. The roasted chicken, had the aroma of smoke and chicken fats lingering in our mouth and the roasted garlic garnish enhanced the taste of the juicy chicken. The rice was steamed with chicken broth, ginger and sesame oil. Till today, amongst the other chicken rice stall we had. This is still on of the best that we've had.

Holy Cow Creamery @ Yishun

This is our second visit in Holy Cow Creamery. Our first visit left us a great impression, which made us come back for more. What captivated us was the waffles and legit ice cream! In addition, they are affordable and their quiet and chill location was ideal to slowly enjoy your meal and relax your mind. Good quality and affordable dessert, is hard to find these days.

The waffles is well done, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. This must have takes good baking timing and good batter in order to develop a fluffy waffle. There are 2 waffle choices, charcoal and normal. We prefer the normal waffle as compare to the charcoal. Somehow the charcoal waffle texture is pretty dry unfortunately. Nevertheless, the ice cream consistancy is thick and fresh. We could literally taste the flavour is homemade and not off from an ice cream tub.

For those who love cosy neighbourhood dessert cafe, this place you will definitely enjoy!

Vegetarian Food in Cafe Salivation

Having difficulties looking for vegetarian western cuisine? We have found good quality and affordable western cuisine in Cafe Salivation. Located in Farrer Park, a mere 5 minutes walking distance from Farrer Park train station. In fact, this is our second time visiting this cafe because the mushroom pizza left such an overwhelming impression that we have to come back again.

There are vegan options besides vegetarian and gluten free. We ordered this time Spinach Soup, Mushroom Pizza, Gratin a La Verdue and Lasagna Soy Minced Meat & Spinach.

Spinach Soup is one of their signature soup dishes, it is made from scratch fully blended with spinach and vegetable stock. Mushroom pizza, at first look we mistook the red sauce as tomato sauce but instead it is a spicy sauce. One of the best mushroom pizza we ever had.

To my vegetarian friends out there, please visit this cafe as it is still pretty underrated!

Al Habib Muslim Food @ Kim San Leng Food Centre

This is for all the people who live in the northern side of Singapore. Getting good Indian food apart from Little India is close to impossible, but we have an alternative. Visit at Al Habib Muslim Food at Kim San Leng Food Centre. Located at Northpoint Bizhub, there's plenty of parking spaces and you can get the common Indian dishes such as Thosai and Biriyani. The food here is above average, the price is pretty decent.
When it comes to thosai, eating it without chutney is kind of a downer and usually getting it in the evening anywhere apart from little india is pretty hard but this place has chutney and good chutney at that in the evening. Mee Goreng spicy lovers, this is a must try dish. They are very generous in their portions.
The Biriyani sells out pretty fast, so do try to be early.
