Haig Road Food Center: Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee

This is definitely one of the top 10 things we have eaten in our lives. This Sarawak Laksa and Kolo mee stall is located at Haig Road Food Center which already has a wide variety of food choices. This is not your usual laksa. The first thing you notice is the brown murky gravy which is worlds apart from the curry laksa which is commonly available. Bee hoon noodles topped with prawns, shredded chicken and eggs drenched in that unfamiliar gravy. The gravy has a rich prawn taste and a creamy consistency. It also has a tinge of sourness. The lightness of the bee hoon noodles, kept the dish well balanced. The shredded chicken adds a nice texture and creates interesting bursts of flavour. Prawn and chicken, what a wonderful combination. I'd suggest you not to eat anything else after this because it's so good that it would outshines anything else you would eat. Ah! But there is an exception. The Sarawak Kolo Mee from the same stall. The appearance of this simple dish pales in comparison to the laska, but the taste was something else. The egg noodles, possibly had a higher content of eggs making the noodles really light and sweet in contrast to the sauce and seasoning which was spicy and salty. The lean char siew and the minced meat added a nice bite and variation but the noodles were addictive by it's own. You might be needing a second bowl for this one.
